There are black redheads too, so I don't even know why this is an issue to begin with...unless some people believe that only white people can be called gingers?

Being called a Ginger isn't exactly a good thing for the most part, and it generally only applies to people with very pale skin, curly red hair, and freckles. It was basically used as derogatory term at some point.
