I actually think neither this anon nor the OP get it. THERE WAS NO FUCKING CRUSH INVOLVED. STOP THINKING WITH YOUR GENITALS AND OPEN YOUR EYES TO THE FACT THAT THIS SHOW IS ABOUT WAR AND POLITICS INSTEAD OF ROMANCE, FANDOM!

So why the fuck would she invite him to her birthday party and follow him around the world?

Because Heero actually helped Relena break her oversheltered princess life and gave her a REAL purpose to live? She was a lonely rich girl until then; by coming in contact with Heero, she saw there was more to life than being a Daddy's girl.

Heaven forbid a girl likes a guy whether platonically or romantically and *acts on that*, it seems. Not to mention, Heero ALSO followed her around and later gave her a b-day present, so that technically would make him a stalker too. =P

One could argue that he was actually the one who STARTED the stalking; SHE didn't invite him over to her school, and she sure didn't look happy about him being there.

That comes later, though. In the beginning she really does act a bit crazy. Plus, I don't think Heero was the biggest reason for her change - I think her father's death and the revelation of her real heritage did much more.

But really, she grows up rather fast I think. The way she followed him around (and drove up in her pink limousine to the school where he was trying to stay undercover, wtf) didn't last very long.

Also, I never got the feeling that their relationship was supposed to be interpreted romantically. They sort of... had too idealized views of each other? They became symbols to each other, more than anything else.

It was definitely her father's death that sealed the deal. Heero was probably more of a means to an end in that than someone she cared for as a person, at first. And before that event she got all grim and severe whenever he came up, so I don't get how people with eyes in their head can honestly consider ANYTHING she did 'stalking'.

Well, the trip to the South Pole and the pink limousine at the school were a bit over the top, I'd say. But she went past that rather quickly.

Watch the episode in which he comes to her school and she invites him to her party. Pay attention to the look on her face as he walks into the classroom and sits down next to her. Pay attention to the look on her face as she first appears on the balcony. If you see a girl who looks happy to see a boy she likes, instead of shock, wariness and grimness, go back to the store and return your copy, because what you're watching is not Gundam Wing.

Same goes for when she hears about him driving an ambulance and leaves her birthday party. Same goes for when she arrives in the marina. After that is a whole other ballgame, but such subtleties as the revelation that the person you've seen as a potential danger actually being a good guy fighting bad guys in the IMMEDIATE aftermath of your father's death by the hands of said bad guys, as well as the psychological consequences this has, are naturally lost to those processing with their libido instead of their brains.

WORD.

Stalker is as stalker does. Following someone about mindlessly and begging them to kill you (does Relena make "I ♥ ~~Joker~~Heero, wtf self?" fandomsecrets?) etc. are creepy stalkerism. And being a creepy stalker doesn't mean you can't accurately label the trait in others; takes one to know one?

Which doesn't mean that I am one; I don't actually like anyone on this planet enough to put that kind of effort into things.

Ah, another shining example of GW fandom's completel lack of viewing comprehension. </3 (See the rest of the thread for more details about this condition and the measures that can be taken to counter it.)

If you're referring to the comment up there to the effect of "stop thinking with your gonads", I'd like to point out that I never claimed Relena had a "crush" on Heero, nor that that was her motive for stalking him. (Though I suppose the "I ♥ Joker" parallel kind of implied it; sorry.)

Contrary to the beliefs of Stephenie Meyer and her fans, stalking is not actually intrinsically linked to some bizarre concept of romance. Relena unarguably went to ridiculous lengths to keep track of Heero's whereabouts and, frequently, insert herself into them.

Call it counterintelligence monitoring and pursuit, instead of stalking, if it makes you happier, but don't jump all over those who go with the shorter term. *rolls eyes* And get down off that high horse or else take off the anon mask, before we all give up and decide you're a troll.

How is one supposed to differentiate between those who think Relena is a stalker in the literal sense of the word, lovesick and delusional and all, and those who don't, when they all use the same word? And here I was thinking our language was so rich and versatile. The "stalker" shortcut is inaccurate and misleading; if people keep using it, other people will keep thinking it's a full and accurate description. Which means that yet other people (like me) will have to keep bitching and moaning and whining that all those other people are getting it wrong.

I hate vicious circles. And sorry, but I've had enough derision, ridicule and outright hatred poured over me to for daring to disagree and telling the GW fandom that it is, indeed, doing it all wrong, to last me a lifetime or three. I've stopped doing that with my screen name attached.
