Re: 107, 123, 133, 134, 144, 146, 147, 164
I dunno, I agree (though with less strong language) with the OP. It felt like Rowling put it in just to be like THESE ARE MY PAIRINGS AND THEY ARE NOW SET IN STONE!!!
Granted, the epilogue only sort of bothered me and didn't feel quite that bad. It was more once she started saying he-evhery-sing-le-pairng that would happen in the future that it really felt like a screw-you to fans. Like she couldn't just let them play. "No, Luna doesn't end up with Dean, she ends up with guy-you've-never-heard-of. Oh, and George marries his dead twin's girlfriend and they never get over the awkwardness of that" etc. It was just like...shut up and let it go to the people already, Rowling. You told your story.
144. Admittedly, there are several Tim Curry songs, some more, some less appropriate to the occassion that one would pick.
Me, I think I'd like "Professional Pirate."

Honestly, I don't care if she gets asked in interviews, it's just...I like reading a book and drawing my own conclusions. Word of God is usually almost...I dunno, intrusive. Like, if fans are talking about interpretations of a work, that's one thing, but if the author steps in, then it's just...indisputable, and takes a good deal of the fun out of it.
The sole exception to this, IMHO, is Greg Weisman of Gargoyles, but that's because, unlike Rowling, he actually has a story that extends beyond the end of the series, and would like to be able to produce it one day.
...also, he hardly ever gives fans any hard-and-fast answers.
As a matter of fact, most of my favourite writers have a tendancy to torture their fans with a "you can ask me any questions you like; the use of my answer will be debatable."
In the case of shipping, I just think --with very few exceptions--the characters in Rowling's books wouldn't know a healthy relationship if it bit them in the rear (though, I suppose, most healthy relationships wouldn't do that). But I liked thinking that at least, I don't know, George would escape that fate.
Luna being with Dean or Neville was still plausible as of the ending of the final book; there was no reason to put a wall there.
Re: 107, 144
The epilogue bothers me more because it was shoddily written, and because, actually, as you said, it surprised no one. It was so wildly unnecessary that it hurt. It answered no (relevant) questions whatsoever, aside from "here's our kids and their names." I would've liked to've seen that Percy actually had changed (I thought his description was the most obvious indication that she wrote this back during book 1 and barely updated it), and maybe some assurance that George was happy and he and Lee were running the shop or something. But we just got that candy-floss, "It's vague because it's meaningful" ending. (Also, while R/Hr didn't surprise me in the least, having seen it coming since...forever, without the epilogue, I could pretend that maybe they'd grow up and find better matches for themselves).
But. The epilogue is the epilogue, and it mostly bothers me because it just was crappily written. It's all the interview stuff. I like your idea, and I wish she'd answered in ways that didn't make her the be-all-end-all-what-color-are-so-and-so's-kid's-eyes guru. Answers beyond canon depress me, I guess. Or hers do, at least. I don't know, I lost a lot of faith with her after book six, so...*shrug*
Re: 107, 144
Though I kinda wish, when people asked her about that stuff, she'd've said, "I don't know, why don't you come up with something?" It's like, even what she doesn't explicitly write, she has to come up with a specific answer for.... it feels like she's micro-managing. Heaven forbid people come up with their own ideas for anything not written in the books!
144: there are several Tim Curry songs, some more [...] appropriate to the occassion that one would pick."
True!
Me, I think I'd like "Professional Pirate."
Heh.
I'd probably pick "Sweet Transvestite". But, then again, I'm weird, so
