Well, come to that, I think a lot of characters have done really despicable things.

Hermione imprisoned a human being in a jar and blackmailed them. Then she disfigured another girl for life after tricking a bunch of people into signing a blank contract. (I don't care if she had "good intentions." That a person can just do those things, especially the latter, because they're so certain they're Right that they can...it's creepy as all get-out. And "deserving" it or not doesn't cut it for me either. Hermione deciding to be Judge, Jury, and Executioner is downright freaky).

Fred and George shoved Montague into a vanishing cabinent, and he wasn't seen for months. For all they knew, they could've killed him. And he was messed up afterwards, which is a whole 'nother kind of torture right there. Mind, I love Fred and George. But they and a lot of the other "good guys" have done seriously sketchy things.

The Marauders are just as good an example of people who have done horrible things. That JKR made the OWLs incident happen AFTER the Werewolf Prank makes them a whole new level of unacceptable to me. Everyone thought it was the other way around and that it knocked the sense into those boys, turning them from petty bullies into people who actually cared about how their actions affected other people. Nope.
