The 2003 anime had them turn out to be (originally) male, but I don't think anyone pays attention to that ending anymore, so I have no idea why the fandom keeps doing it.

I do, the manga was pretty boring to me, I was never able to get into it. The only FMA I care about is the first anime.

Fair! I love both versions; I just don't see many people these days who do. Nice to know they're still out there!

Funnily enough, I have a character profile book from the 2003 anime, and they specifically refer to Envy as "she" in that.

Becaue it's canon for the 2003 anime?

Some of us were never into neither manga nor Brotherhood, and this is the first time I'm hearing about Envy being enby.
