(Anonymous) 2019-10-19 08:29 pm (UTC)(link)Given that they can shape shift into male and female forms, it isn't likely to have any attachment to either sex/gender, nor is it going to get offended being referred to as either sex/gender. If anything, Envy's pronouns are He/She/They/It, not just a straight 'they'.
Some characters are just like that. Hange Zoe from Attack on Titan is much the same ... albeit without the shapeshifting.
There's a carte blanche for both characters to interpret how you want. In Envy's case, it's the fact that Envy is not human and can literally switch between sexes and forms. In Hange's case, the mangaka said that anything is fine, it's up to the reader.
Neutral pronouns are available if you prefer them, but if you want to call Envy he or she, pick what you want, and don't get angry at other people for picking what they want. Envy wouldn't care anyway, it's a dragon ... grub thing.
