Ah-hooo, Werewolves Of London

(Anonymous) 2019-10-21 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
What are some of your favorite mainstream songs to listen to for Halloween? Not songs specifically written for Halloween, but songs written to be listened to year round, that happen to contain spooky/creepy/supernatural elements.

Share as many as you want. :)

Most of the songs on MCR’s Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge album have a creepy vibe to them with some violent lyrics. Plus, I like imagining the whole story for it with the guy and girl being separated by death and the guy having to bring the devil the souls of a thousand evil men to see her again. It’s deliciously gothic.

Anything metal works honestly. I love good metal. Blind Guardian is great for some spooky sounding stuff.

you've already named my first choice, which I like enough that I've always done it at any Halloween party where there was karaoke.

It’s such a great, fun, idiosyncratic song! (And great for karaoke!)

My father and I like to sing the “I saw a werewolf drinkin' a piña colada at Trader Vic's / His hair was perfect” bit at each other, because it never fails to amuse us. And the little “Heh! Draw blood!” bit gets me every time.

Sa

I know the ARS version of Spooky is a cover version and not the original, but imo it's the superior version.

Red Right Hand is great and really a bunch of Nick Cave songs could go on the list

There's quite a few Oingo Boingo songs that aren't Halloween-specific, but which still contain a lot of talk of ghosts and dead things and other creepy stuff. "Flesh N' Blood", "No One Lives Forever", "When the Lights Go Out", "No Spill Blood", "Dead or Alive", "Insanity"...

Fuck yeah Astronautalis!

Re: Ah-hooo, Werewolves Of London

(Anonymous) 2019-10-21 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
"The Killing Moon"-Echo and the Bunnymen
"Welcome to My Nightmare"-Alice Cooper
"Highway to Hell"-AC/DC
"Gloomy Sunday"-Billie Holliday
"Psycho Killer"-Talking Heads
"Evil Eye"-Franz Ferdinand
"Sympathy for the Devil"-Rolling Stones

And if anyone really wants to freak themselves out, I came across a link to the band Suicide's "Frankie Teardrop" a while back, and I gave that song a listen. It's...deeply, deeply disturbing.

Bottom of the River, by Delta Rae
Peak witch aesthetic, as far as I'm concerned

I'm goth, so any day can be Halloween if I want it to be....

Bauhaus, Bella Lugosi's Dead (40 years old this year)
Bauhaus, Lilies and Remains
Concrete Blonde, Bloodletting

Les Claypool's brain is always a good spot for some spookiness, Beats Antique feat. Les Claypool, Beelzebub is My Name

Even more weird, Pink Floyd, Bike

The Cramps, Surfin Bird. It starts off as a straight cover and then devolves after the transition to "Papa Oom Mow Mow" because what do you expect from Lux Interior and Poison Ivy?

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, God's Gonna Cut You Down (yes there are other versions, it's a fucking standard, this is my pick for Halloween)

The Lucy Dacus cover of "In The Air Tonight" has some nice atmosphere, (expect to to be used on a tv soundtrack eventually).
