Using "minute" to describe anything shorter than, let's say, five seconds. In those cases "moment" works so much better. I'm always thrown right out of the scene when someone writes minute to mean half a second.

Also "bemused". Looking at the way it's used in fics, I'm pretty sure many authors think it's like an even more passive version of amused or something (to be amused by = to be bemused).

This always bugs me in fic. I keep expecting something like "He stood and stared at her for a full minute" to continue with "She started to wonder if he was having a seizure."
