His last good movie was Django Unchained and that was when his editor was still alive. His stuff since then has been an absolute mess imo.

I have a theory that his editor was actually the brilliant one.

I find this secret amusing because I'm a big Tarantino fan and I'm not into Lucas at all.

And I love Star Wars and only like a couple of Tarantino movies (Kill Bill vol. 1, Django, and Dusk till Dawn). Sorry.

no need to apologize, and Dusk Till Dawn is the only Tarantino movie I don't care for. :)

I just like vampires. I vastly prefer the second half to the first half.

I like vampires too, enough that I've been one for Halloween, I just wasn't that into that movie.

That's totally cool.

(Anonymous) 2019-10-26 12:25 pm (UTC)(link)
It's a RR movie though. Tarantino wrote it iirc and was supposed to direct it but he got too busy with the acting. For me it's like, the first half is a decent enough Tarantino movie, but the second is really a jokey splatterfest RR style.

(Anonymous) 2019-10-25 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmmm. I haven't seen all of his movies, but the ones I've seen didn't make a convert out of me. Which ones would you say are a good example of this restraint?

OP

(Anonymous) 2019-10-25 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Of the ones I’ve seen, Reservoir Dogs is the one that has the least gratuitous Tarantino-isms.

(Anonymous) 2019-10-26 12:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Jackie Brown is a very sober film compared to others in his filmography and tackles its themes quite maturely

(Anonymous) 2019-10-25 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
SA as above... I hit post too soon, but wanted to add that I'm not sure that's really Lucas' problem. I think Lucas is a good ideas/concepts person (because he borrows from impeccable sources) but he's not a good writer or director and does better when he lets someone else do both those things.

I think he's fine at writing some things. He's just not great at writing dialogue.

(Anonymous) 2019-10-26 02:18 am (UTC)(link)
It's a shame that dialogue is rather important in a movie script...

(Anonymous) 2019-10-26 03:51 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I have to agree. I think if you can't write good dialogue you probably can't write a good movie. That's not to say he's a complete talentless hack, but he doesn't feel like he should be the head creator of anything, IMO.

(Anonymous) 2019-10-25 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Absolutely agree.

The Hateful Eight could have been good, but it was a drawn out, untidy, overly-long, self-indulgent piece of shit that would have benefited from an editor, good god.

(Anonymous) 2019-10-26 06:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Saying The Hateful Eight was "a piece of shit" is bollocks. Not liking the movie is one thing, but saying it was shit is ridiculous. Just... stop. For everyone's sake.

+1

Antis gonna anti.

(Anonymous) 2019-10-26 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
The same can be said for Kojima. I highly doubt Death Stranding is even going to come out without Konami cutting back all his ridiculous ideas.

(Anonymous) 2019-10-26 06:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Strongly disagree. I haven't watched his latest movie yet, but all the others were pretty good, stylish and entertaining. Even his weakest one (Death Proof) was worth it for that cathartic ending. All his films are well-made. Lucas on the other hand... The Prequels were an absolute disaster in every possible way.
