Well, the word "destructive" is right there on the image.

But yeah, some people seem to think "abusive" is a one size fits all word.

Abuse has almost lost all meaning to me with the way antis/discourses casually throw around the term. Ditto to pedo/child porn accusations.

It's awful that horrible crimes like abuse and making child porn have lost all meaning because certain people just have to go around equating fiction to real life horror.

Won’t somebody think of my fictional fav who is only a minor!!!!! But lemme just report this random persons twitter to the FBI for writing porn on Ao3 between two characters who sometimes fight.

Agreed.

Also I regularly feel like there's no middle ground any more and it makes me reluctant to engage with fandom now. It's like it doesn't occur to people you can like characters who aren't 100% pure without trying to twist them into something they're not...but on the other end of the scale you're not allowed to like anyone (fictional) who isn't 100% pure and you're an awful person if you do. I miss nuance.

The post does make a good point though.

More like a useless point. Excusing a villain's behavior doesn't happen in fandom as much as everyone acts like. The real hard to swallow pill is that liking a villain and even feeling sorry for them (or "woobifying" them, as fandom calls it) doesn't mean you're excusing the bad things they do.

(Anonymous) 2019-10-26 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
Exactly. And there's also, you know, the HUGE distinction that they are fictional and have not actually caused harm to any living people. Liking a fictional villain who has only ever harmed other fictional people is not at all like being a fan of a real-life serial killer.

the real hard to swallow pill is *my* pet peeve! this guy's an idiot!

Who's the blonde guy in the red shirt?
