Generally, it is churches feeling their parking lot full of cars. The kids then go around from car to car to get candy. The car trucks usually hold all the candy. You sometimes get weird church pamphlets but you also get a lot of candy.

oh, a lot of people in my neighborhood (including me) are not christian so I don't know how well that would go over here. Plus a lot of people here don't own cars.

There's something kind of funny about having kids take candy from strangers in their cars, even though it's not weirder than taking candy from strangers at their houses. It just raises my 80s childhood Stranger Danger hackles a bit! We were always warned about strangers in cars offering candy (but were freely allowed to trick-or-treat after dark without parental escort).
