NaNoWriMo thread

Anyone else doing it?

How does it make you feel?

Haven't decided yet but probably. I don't usually 'finish', but it does help me get ideas off the ground a lot of the time.

Until last year I never got past day 1 and spent the rest of the month in a deep depression, but last year I WON (by 82 words) and this year I am excited for it. I have a ton of vague ideas and I'm just gonna write down everything. And maybe this year I can keep the streak going beyond NaNo. Maybe. MAYBE. Anyway good luck.

Do you use the website/forums at all?

I might try my hand at it, probably wont get very far with it since I'm a terrible procrastinator. I absolutely love all the long works that come out of NaNoWriMo though.

use it to procrastinate on something else

that's probably what I'll end up doing

I'm definitely going to give it a shot! But this year, I'm not telling anyone (unanon) that I'm doing it. I've been really struggling with my depression this year (we're working on adjusting my meds) and my creativity tanked. I don't want anyone to know I'm trying it if I fail.

Totally get it, and that was kind of me last year. I was in a job that was really fucking with my head and I felt like NaNo provided me the escape I needed. Hope you enjoy yourself and find the right level of meds. <3

Planning on it. I'm a bit excited because I have several ideas I like.

Highfive back!

I'm especially happy because last year was a nonstarter for several reasons and it's nice to look forward to it this time.

I've never done NaNoWriMo "officially" but I'd like an excuse to push forward on a fic I'd been writing these last couple of weeks (based on a fic idea I'd been sitting on for many years, hoping it would die... instead, it has apparently evolved), and to complete the final part of an existing fic. It might not "count" but that doesn't bother me.

This is where I'm at, too. *high fives*

I use NaNo season to force out weirdass longfic (when the rest of the year I usually do drabbles and short one-shot's). Third year in a row I'll be doing fork-in-the-road AUs for my latest fandom obsession.
(And then I'll spend the next eleven months lamenting "urrrgh should edit clean finish and post that *thing* but it's too messy urrrgh will stick to short fic again")
