There have been tons: the most recent one that's been all over my friends list was Sweet Charity (http://www.sweet-charity.net/) earlier this month.

Ah, I see. That's kinda neat. Perhaps they're just less common among anime/cartoon fandoms.

It's probably because anime/cartoon fandoms run younger thus the members don't have the resources or the know how to do something like that.

Sweet Charity isn't fandom specific. You can offer up in any fandom you choose. It just gets more pimping in certain circles, I guess :)

The con in my town has an auction every year, and all the proceeds go to charity. I'm not sure if that counts or not, but I've seen bids go crazy-high on some of the items.

I know that Discworld fandom runs a lot of fundraisers for Alzheimer's. It's really sweet. :3

Supernatural fandom's also done some charity drives under the name of one of the actors or such. :D They might be a crazy lot, but they're dedicated in special ways, too. ♥

Oh, there have been tons over the years. Most official actor's fan clubs ask the honoree what his or her favorite charity is and the club raises money for that.

Trek fandom has raised money for Pediatric AIDS, Doctors Without Borders, Amnesty International, and dozens more. Some fandom gatherings have been just to raise money for the show's/actors' charities. And the actors have donated props, signed scripts, photos, etc for auction items.

I would not be surprised to find out that fandom, from science fiction to comic book to whatever, have rasied millions of dollars all over the globe for charties.

I've had one. A friend on my FL is a supremely talented ficcer and artist, and her old scanner got completely damaged in KatRita. So I got my whole FL (and other fans of hers otherwise not on LJ) to chip in so we could buy her a new scanner. :)

I'm not sure if that's the sort of "charity drive" you were thinking of, but I've known and participated in others, too. For the fan I mentioned above, she's best known for her anime/manga stuff, so I hardly think this sort of thing is specific to non-anime/manga fandoms, either.
