Just wanted you to know, that I personally am offended that you're essentially publically dismissing ALL the authors in the Merlin fandom as crappy. Way to slam the fandom before it's even really been born.

I'm not arrogant enough to assume that I'm THAT awesome, but I work hard on my writing and I know a good few other authors in the fandom who do the same. I'm a published writer in real life - I have SOME skill and I've been devoting time to my Merlin fics which I COULD be devoting to things that would actually be making me money, because I love the show, I enjoy writing fic for it and I want to give the new fandom some material. The fact that you can't immediately find mind-shattering awesomeness in a fandom that is FIVE EPISODES OLD should really not be surprising and is not grounds to start bemoaning the lack of 'good' authors.

I'M good, damn it, as are a lot of my friends, and we're effing trying here with preciouse little to work with which is almost certainly more than you're doing. If you don't like it, try writing it yourself instead of dismissing us all as 'dissapointing' this early in the game.

I know. i saw that. And felt the need to defend myself, my fandom and my fellow authors where people could see it as opposed to it being hidden beind the comments of someone AGREEING with the OP.

Makes sense. If the second person had posted a new thread, I would've replied there. That just happened to be where they responded.

Again, not singling anyone out as crappy or a bad writer. I am just sad that I haven't seen anything especially outstanding yet. And, like I said to

paynesgrey, she made a good point - it is only five episodes into the season.

No, you didn't single anyone out - you just summarily dismissed ALL of us by hoping that 'maybe some really good writers will get into it'; because apparently, those of us already there (even those of us who do this for a living IRL) just aren't worth the font we're writing with. Which, btw, is WORSE than singling one person out. Because you can't find anything that immediately strikes you as AMAZING, you dismiss EVERYONE who has bothered to write ANYTHING in that fandom and imply to anyone who might be thinking about getting into the show (you know, new fans - who we still desperately need) that all the fic currently in the fandom is crappy and that they shouldn't bother reading it. Which is grossly unfair - that being the main thrust of my point here.

Seriously, you need to not make those kinds of generalisations. With a fandom this young, you can do damage to its growth by coming out with that sort of blind ascertion. You can also hurt people who don't disserve to be dismissed like that and you can seriously discourage those who are REALLY trying to get this fandom off the ground, which, again, is the LAST thing this fandom needs when it's still so small.

Whiiich is what I said in the other comments. I didn't mean to word things in a really hurtful way, and when the point was brought up to me that yeah, it's very early on in the stages of this fandom, I quickly conceded to that point.

whiiiich is why I edited my point to try to make clear what I ACTUALLY meant which is that making those kind of ascertions and sweeping generalisations, no matter the context (be it fandom or anything else in life) is BAD. It'll get you into all sorts of bother and it will unnecissarily hurt the people around you, which is what has happened.

(And I find this entire issue with your wording incredibly ironic given that YOU are the one criticising the writers in this fandom...XP)

Look, I get that you that you didn't mean what your secret was implying, (that much is clear from the other thread) but next time... just think about who you're going to be hurting before you use that kind of sweeping generalization. Whether you meant it or not, it's still hurtful and unfair to a lot of people.

How does my ability to word things have anything to do with the writing of other people in the fandom? Maybe I have an issue with the characterization. Maybe I have an issue with plot. Maybe I have an issue with length. Maybe I have an issue with spelling and/or grammar issues. My unfortunate wording on this occasion has no direct correlation to any problems I see in fic, or any correlation to the type of fic I wish to see.

Lol, I was just pointing out that you are clearly as 'accident prone' writing-wise as anyone in the Merlin (or any) fandom is, but you're complaining about the quality of our writing. I personally try not to hold other writers to standards I can't achieve - generally speaking, if I know I haven't written something well, I don't criticise others for making the same mistakes, except to say that I made similar ones and that we should probably both get betas. XP
