Ditto, but for h/c fic. My fave character is always the one that has to take care of the other one. I'd love to see some variety! Someone please give my boy some love!

Oh, same!

I know this feeling so well. Also, they always make the other character the one who pines. If I ship character A/character B, and my favorite character is character B, can I please get some pining!B? No? Okay, fandom.

Me, too. I would settle for both of them pining at once, but it's ridiculous how one-sided it is in my fandom. It's inexplicable.

You have my sympathies, but also, I'm bemused by this. All my pairings have been equal-opportunity pining. The characters didn't always pine the exact same way, mind you, but there was usually pretty equal pining from both.

Super one-sided pining would drive me crazy. After a while it would just start to feel very Mary Sueish to me, and very "this is catharsis for all of my unrequited high school crushes." Which...is fine. There's nothing objectively wrong with that. But wow I hate it so much.

Oh shit, this is relatable.

One of my big lifelong OTPs, everyone ships it, but half the fandom seems to HATE character A, and he's my favorite. Not just my favorite in that fandom, but like... maybe my favorite character in anything ever. And it's BIZARRE to see a fandom take a really good character and twist everything he says and does, even in fics where he's half the main ship and one of the heroes.

I definitely relate to this, so much.

Same here, OP! I'm convinced that in any fandom with an OTP, fandom will pick the geekier, less-attractive of the pairing to gush over. Not sure why. I'm shallow. I like pretty people.

Maybe they like geekier characters because they’re geeky people.
