That seems like a reasonable complaint to me. I've never seen either version, but racism from POC is not (generally) the same as racism from white people. Like, there's different cultural baggage, different history, et cetera.

that seems like a very ~naive 90s racism~ thing to do though, they probably thought they were making some kind of mind-blowing point lmao. though it changes the dynamic entitirely, and not in a way that makes sense

The 1990s *was* full of movies that tried to pretend the USA had reached the status of being a truly color-blind society which gave rise to such asinine things as John McClane in all seriousness telling Zeus "You're a racist! You don't like me because I'm white!" while ignoring the decades of historical reasons *why*.
