What tipped you off, OP? I sort of guessed Borden's but then thought nah, that's too silly. I loved the movie, though.

Borden's was meant to be obvious, right? It was just that Angier couldn't understand that level of devotion and dedication. The incredible work involved, and at the cost of sharing the glory. He was sure there was a 'trick' and it made him crazy.

I mean, the irony is that his 'trick' ended up having the same solution. Just in a different aspect...

I guess I double bluffed myself because it seemed so obvious that I thought it was a red herring!

I think that's one of the reasons I love the movie so much! It seems so obvious, that the characters, themselves, dismiss it out of hand (except for Angier's ingenue, Michael Caine's character—he knows what's up) It makes the audience doubt what we know, despite the fact that it's blindingly obvious. I doubted it.

I mean, there's a character who helps Borden out, who never speaks, who's obviously in heavy make-up! Who means a lot to him! Come on!

I only guessed Borden's around two thirds in. I fixated early on Fallon being a woman and tried to figure out who, and only once it became clear it wasn't Scarlett Johansson and there were no women left for it to be did it click. I didn't doubt it though, the movie set it up pretty clearly once you knew what to look for. (My roommate thought it was silly, too, and didn't believe it until the reveal.)

Angier's was the obvious one for me. A mysterious nobleman who wants to buy all of Borden's tricks, especially his biggest one? Come on. And then Angier and his wife talk about how Angier had to change his name not to bring scandal on the family name for his chosen profession. It was just a question of how Angier faked his death, and that was answered when he found a double (or so I thought).
