Re: Inspired by 10: Do you believe in "Your Kink Is Not My Kink"?

Basically I feel like if someone's into being tied up and whipped or whatever, I'm fine with that (regardless of if it's real or fictional).

If someone's molesting kids in fiction, I don't think that's okay. Obviously no real people are being hurt as long as it's only in fiction, but I don't think it's acceptable or fine just because it's fiction, and I don't want to read about it. If for example, a character was sexually abused and it was treated as the morally wrong/criminal act it was, then fine. But if an adult character "has sex with" a child and the story treats it as if it's completely acceptable, I want nothing to do with the person who wrote that because they're clearly fucked up in the head.

Oh! I get it! You're the personification of the Hayes Code! :D

I don't know what that is but I'm sure it's some sort of insult...whatever. If someone writes about adults molesting kids and thinks it's cool I want nothing to do with them, and I'm fine with that.

NAYRT, but the Hays code banned damn near everything even slightly risqué, including the word “damn.” Being disgusted by works depicting even fictional child porn as hot still allows for a whole fucking smorgasbord of fucking and swearing and heist movies and drug use and disrespecting authority.

Claiming someone is a prude because works depicting child sex abuse as arousing gross them out is really, really reaching. I don’t see “look at the narrow-minded thought-police” directed at people who get squicked by depictions of bestiality or scat or whatever.

person they were replying to

Thanks for explaining what it is, I didn't want to google in case they were trying to fuck with me and it was something that would get me put on some list.

But yeah...I don't care about swearing or nudity or anything sexual as long as it involves consenting adults. They can think I'm some moral crusader who's outraged by everything if that makes them feel better, but literally the only thing I draw the line at is glorifying a lack of consent, and I don't think that's some crazy standard to have. I'm not calling the cops on people who write/draw those types of things, I'm not going onto their websites/AO3 pages/whatever to tell them how awful they are, I'm just saying I don't want to have any contact with them. I don't see what's so unreasonable about that, but...people are weird.

DA - I think this is reasonable, anon. I've grown somewhat more "meh, whatever" about a lot of "sexy rape" stuff, but I still understand where you're coming from.
