I guess the pairing just doesn't fit your tastes then, because I saw plenty that indicated a romance just in the 2nd arc. :/ They had chemistry, they were happy together, there was mutual blushing, signs of affection, etc. And the scene of them in the cockpit at the end of episode 15 showed that they would probably continue to grow closer in the future.

THIS IS WHY I VOTED FOR JOHNNY BOY. SOMEONE MIGHT ACTUALLY DO THAT AND IT WOULD BE A HORRIFIC AND TRAUMATIC EVENT FOR OUR COUNTRY. (NOT NANCY, LOL, THAT BITCH HAD IT COMIN', BUT EVERYONE'S FAVORITE MESSIAH.)

104. I know it's comforting to know you have a character you can relate to like that, especially when it feels like most real people are difficult to trust. It's not easy (I probably don't need to tell you that); it can be difficult to reconcile living a life you think is genuine and also wanting to be happy. I don't know if it's really related, but somehow I'm reminded of a quote from the director's cut edition of JTHM:
"Dear Die-ary,: There's nothing terribly wrong with feeling lost, so long as that feeling precedes some plan on your part to actually do something about it. Too often a person grows complacent with their disillusionment, perpetually wearing their 'discomfort' like a favorite shirt. Personally I've had some pretty okay experiences with therapists and the pills I'm on now for my own anxiety/depression issues help, but I don't feel doped up on them. Not that that's everyone's experience, just my own.

And that wasn't the real Kamina. That was the Kamina living in Simon's heart. It was the idealization of his beliefs. They couldn't feature Nia in the sequence since she wasn't dead.

Keyword. Chemistry is something 100% subjective. Chemistry is the key to romance. Chemistry is something that can't be measured objectively.

I think the problem I have with it, in the end, is that GL is ultimately too carefully constructed for me to buy the romances as romances. I mean, I saw visual cues, like you did. It's not like I was flummoxed that they ended up engaged, it's just...well, it was basically about the "idea of love" and less about love as it happens between two people, messiness and awkwardness that comes as part and parcel.

Nia and Simon were always slightly too compatible, slightly too "SOULMATE HAS APPEARED" for me to be invested in them. It came across as plastic to me.

There's a reason he liked to be alone thought the show. He was never with everyone else on the jokes(episode 12), he liked to watch the clouds by himself(episode 13), he liked to be in his office by himself rather than to go partying or hanging out with the rest of gang and after Nia died he decided to leave Kamina City because even if they were his dear friends he never felt any desire to be close to them.

If I knew how or had the time, I would start a comm.

This lack of SNL fandom needs to be FIXED!!

1. DIW2-Wow. I used to LOVE those books. I guess I'm glad that was before my slash days, but now I'm tempted to go back and re-read just to see how it looks. Now here's the conundrum: do those of us who actually want a fandom join up with that infrequently-updated SNL community that's already up on LiveJournal, or do we start a new one which will be more awesome?

I thought they had messiness and innocence going on. They valued their time together and it worked because enjoying each other is what love is all about. The scene in episode 27 after they defeat the Anti-Spiral where they are content to just lay together without doing nothing other than being with each other is to me what epitomizes their relationship.

I will agree that Nia wasn't given much screentime in the second half of the show, which I found disappointing. But all the emphasis given to her character in the last episode made me forgive that a little.

To me, a single moment of Eureka and Renton doing the dishes together had more love than anything else in the entirety of Gurren Lagann.

Eureka Seven had 50 episodes. Gurren Lagann had 26 (not counting the recap which wasn't originally planned), and crammed two epic storylines into that length of time. I'm surprised they even had time to show Simon & Nia having fun at the beach together or Simon enjoying Nia's food. As it is, they still managed to get the themes across and give many people enough to love about the pairing.

N!S1 I know this is just your opinion but you are so wrong. Original Gundam is superior. I mean, anime fandom in general wouldn't even exist in its current form if that anime was never produced. It's the first of the militaristic mecha shows in general. Not to mention that the characters are so much more compelling and enduring than any character from Seed. C'mon, CHAR? THE anime villain? Hello?

107. I'm kinda tired of the whole whole "MC-of-a-shoujo-series-is-a-Sue!" argument anyway, since in a lot of cases, that is a trait of shoujo manga. 142. It's not really just respecting the creator's background, you know. They all do tend to have different drawing styles (I can, for most series, tell a manhwa on first glance), and a lot of them have slightly different tropes because of the cultures. And, sorry, but comics =/= graphic novels =/= manga, manhwa, OEL manga wtfever. Not in the industry, anyway; there ARE clear differences between them, and manga are nothing like most comics, comic books, or graphic novels, so filing them all under that heading would be confusing at best. =X

107. Were we watching the same anime? o.0 Sure, Princess Tutu is pretty perfect, but Ahiru sure isn't. How many times in the series did she lose faith in what she was doing and give up (albeit only for short periods of time)? And let's not forget about how that temper of hers kept her and Fakir from getting along for about half the series. Sure, she was well intentioned for the most part, but she didn't always act selfless. Ahiru made mistakes (like trusting a creepy guy offering a weird piece of jewelry...). Anyway, I don't like using 'Sue' in reference to a canon character, and that includes the category of canon!Sue.
