Homophobes are frequently gay and closeted. At some point it became ~problematic~ and offensive to say this, but I have way too much experience with it being the case to claim it's not true.

It's weird because people act like it's true of every homophobe, and they use is in reaction to specific acts of individual homophobia, and both of those things are really weird and fucked up.

Yeah, people act like "lol, they must be repressed!" is the perfectly insulting comeback without...thinking it through. If someone's a total asshole, insult them for being an asshole.

My best friend (a gay man) and I like to play a game where when we hear a man spouting homophobic garbage, we immediately get on his phone and go to Grindr to find the guy. We're at a solid 70% success rate.

I'd do the same for women, but I don't know of any active lesbian-centric apps, lmao
