If you really think that the millions of people who have used marijuana medicinally are just fooling themselves and it would be better if a doctor prescribed them something....

You're putting way more faith in the health/mental health industry then you should.

Yep. As someone who works in the medical field, it's just bizarre to me how overboard they're going with the whole doctor=good thing. There are a ton of shitty, unethical, corrupt doctors out there who don't give a damn about their patients or helping them, they just want to make as much money as they possibly can. In those instances the patients would probably be better off medicating themselves than trusting that doctor's awful judgment. Not to say that there aren't good doctors out there, there are, the one I work for currently is, but there are also a lot of awful ones.

Right?
I have Crohn's - it was undiagnosed for years, and for years i was in pain. All i got when i managed to see a doctor was offers of pain meds and that it was probably just a 'woman thing'. WTF.

I almost died from that bullshite.

ayrt

Yes! A large portion of our patients are people who've been to multiple other doctors who were dismissive of their pain, who just told them it was all in their head and wasn't real, and just wanted to throw pain pills at them instead of actually trying to figure out what was wrong. Honestly, this person's coming off as pretty naive to me.

My sis in law got the same thing, but since she's overweight, it was always 'in your head/woman thing/loose some weight', until she was sick in the hospital with a toxic gall bladder and pancreatic cancer.

Infuriating.

And i agree - naive.

There are tons of people who believe in homeopathic cures, too. I'm not saying that marijuana has no medical benefits, I'm saying that anecdotal evidence from people who don't have a medical background isn't infallible.

No, it's not 'infallible' but since doing any actual, scientific trials on the benefits of marijuana have been and still are, to my knowlege, basically been made mostly impossible to do by the US government, it's what we've got.

And frankly, if smoking weed means a person in chronic pain feels better, or someone with cancer can eat and keep down a meal, I don't really give a rat's ass if a doctor approved it or not.

Yeah, the way the government schedules drugs means that no trials can be done on marijuana (and the whole stigmatization of marijuana in the first place was based on racism).

Right? I get so pissed with the 'well, there's no proof' crap when the damn *government* is making it impossible to test anything at all!
