LOL, no. People are willfully misunderstanding and making assumptions about my opinions re: marijuana use. I'll bullet point it:

* Yes, I am SUPER judgemental about people who smoke weed and claim it's for medical reasons when they're self-diagnosed and self-medicating. I'd feel equally judgemental of people who randomly take pills without a prescription. I'm pretty wary of people self-medicating with drugs, period.

* I think marijuana should be legalized and regulated.

* Smoke 'em if you got 'em, but don't be a dick about it and don't pretend like it's "medicine" if you're just, you know, smoking weed and haven't actually consulted a doctor or anything.

Since up until recently medical marijuana hasn't been legal most places, and since our own govt. won't actually test it's properties in any meaningful way, and since a lot of people (like me, for instance) don't want to be taking heavy-duty opiates (or, like me, can't, since they make me puke), the use of marijuana as a medical treatment has been the safer, more economical, and easier option for many people.

Your weird insistence that 'a doc didn't prescribe it so it isn't medicine' is ridiculous, since doctor's *do* prescribe it. Just because it's not yet legal somewhere or because someone can't afford a doctor, or can't find a doctor willing to prescribe it doesn't mean it doesn't work and that it's not medicinal.

I don's smoke marijuana. I don't drink, either, and most medicine that you need a prescription for makes me feel like crap. But i know for a fact that being able to smoke or take cbd products is the only way for my daughter with an eating disorder to be able to eat sometimes.

You want to scoff at her and pretend she's just doing it to get high, well, fuck off, I've cried over seeing her ribs and spine practically coming through her skin. It's medicine for her, and she's only just this year been able to legally have it with a doctor's prescription. That doesn't change the fact that it worked *before* that.

As someone who doesn’t smoke weed (or tobacco or anything else) and doesn’t drink alcohol or even coffee, and personally really dislikes drugs and has lost family to them, but also as a US citizen who spent a decade without health insurance: sometimes self-medicating is the only kind people can afford.

I’m not gonna judge people who can’t or couldn’t afford proper treatment and are just trying to get by. Was my taking ibuprofen like m&ms, or treating utis with unsweetened cranberry juice and celery seed tea, and migraines with peppermint oil and feverfew, and toothache with clove oil, dangerous as fuck? You bet! Did I cry because I couldn’t afford meds or a doctor? Yep!

But hey, I’m not dead and I finally have insurance, maybe I should belittle people stuck in the same situation I used to panic might kill me.
