It's been going on for a number of years now, I can't really fault it for running out of ideas/trying to take it in new and different ways.

running out of ideas/trying to take it in new and different ways"

I think the issue is the opposite. GameFreak just refuse to being innovative or give a series a revamp and that's why the games feel so stale now compared with other franchises.

Sorry, maybe I'm missing something, but isn't OP's whole premise based on the idea that they're innovating and changing things up?

(Anonymous) 2019-11-06 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe I'm projecting but I read it different. Thw whole pokedex cut is a big bummer, specially since the dex got leaked and a big chunk of my favorites pokemon are missing.

OP of the secret here and nah, I'm unenthused because of features that weren't carried over from previous games and an unwhelming rooster. The series and fandom has been a constant, but my favorite entries in the series have been when they've shaken up the formula a lot.

(Anonymous) 2019-11-06 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
When have they ever shaken up the formula "a lot"? And in the same breath you're saying they didn't bring back things from previous games.

I think Pokemon fandom sort of creates its own problems because they can't even figure out what they want.

Megas were pretty huge, as were forms. But Dynamax is underwhelming. It's The Same Mon But Bigger.

Gigantimax....... So many formes are locked behind bullshit.

How is the megas shaking things up a lot. It's the exact same gameplay, your pokemon is just stronger.

AYRT - thanks for clarifying!

I admit blaziken is hard to top but still

You're a grown up, it's not a surprise you've outgrown a game geared towards 8 year olds.

Yeah, I played Let's Go Pikachu (a reboot of 1st gen) and it was so simple and basic with no challenge at all. The most fun I had with it was finding cute pokemon and watching them grow, but all the combat elements need a serious overhaul. But all the older fans would blow a gasket if that ever happened because it would change the metagame too much.

(Anonymous) 2019-11-06 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
Didn't most people agree that Let's Go Pickachu wasn't that good?

I actually liked Let's Go Eevee but maybe I just have bad taste. But it was definitely not challenging at all. I challenged myself in a small way by playing it in German even though my German is not very good.

Most people I know found it a dumbed down (trainers you battle hardly ever use healing items etc) but prettier version of a game we all played years ago. Certainly not worth full price but I could see the target audience was kids who hadn't played a Pokemon game before.

I quite liked it, it's not breaking the mold or anything, but I had a good time, and being able to run around with your buddy pokemon following you never got old.

(Anonymous) 2019-11-06 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
I like Pokemon, but I know I'd be burnt out if I played every single game, so I skip generations.

Played Sun/Moon, so I'm passing on this one.

By the time the next one comes around I'll be looking forward to it.

Maybe you just need a break!

Hated Sun and Moon (didn’t even finish it which has never happened previously for me with the series) so I’ll buy this one secondhand.

I'm not over the moon about it, but that's how I get when a new main canon pokemon game comes out on a system I don't have. One game is not enough for me to justify buying a whole new gaming system, so I don't even bother with spending my time worrying about it.

I am however really enjoying watching people poke fun at English Pokemon.

I'm pretty damn hyped about it as I've been for all new mainline pkmn release, even with all the negatives-- So I don't really have much to say, just wanted to send you an internet hug, OP. I know I'd be heartbroken to lose enthusiasm for something I've loved so much for most of my life.
