I don't think we're supposed to care except in the more abstract 'oh noes, they killed hundreds/thousands/millions, that is horrible!!'

Sort of cementing how 'evil' the evil one is.

I just find it lazy. Tbh, it doesn't even work for me. I'll forgive a villain blowing up nameless masses before I'd forgive one hurting a character I like.
