Worldbuilding is good, but it's good in a very different way from the qualities that are usually associated with fictional storytelling (which is really what I mean by "literary quality" in my first post; maybe someone else would disagree with that usage).

Sometimes a book will have both good literary qualities and good worldbuilding, but it's usually a very awkward fit and most of the time it doesn't work well. Most good worldbuilding would be better displayed in, like, a "non-fiction" gazetteer format or something like that, rather than a fictional narrative format.

Not entirely sure what you mean honestly and I really don't agree with you anyway.

...............you're saying that sci fi and fantasy books and basically any book that doesn't take place in the right-now-real-world....shouldn't have any world building?

And that all world building should be in non-fiction form?

Wtf kind of stories are you imagining, here?
