I agree that the Dany stans will probably be seriously disappointed if the books are ever finished, but I think GRRM will do a much better job at actually making the ending feel a lot more organic, because the characters will have actual arcs that will have played out over multiple books.

D&D did not do themselves any favors by defanging most of the characters who weren't Ramsay Bolton or Cersei.

I think they de-fanged Cersei by the end too tbh... I was really looking forward to her going out in full Bitch Queen mode and then... s8 happened.

But I understand your hope for the books to make more sense, I had that initial hope after s8 aired and it was so hilariously bad, but I've basically resigned myself to the books being kind of shit as well. If only to make myself not care anymore.
