(Anonymous) 2019-11-08 03:08 am (UTC)(link)At best it makes them look like complete idiots, and at worst they look like complete idiots while acting like a complete asshole at the some time.
(The Persona series is particularly bad with this, especially the fourth game.)

But not a male one. So sorry, but uh. That's a very sexist remark.

(Anonymous) 2019-11-08 09:15 am (UTC)(link)There's a difference between can't stand and hate. But keep sucking OP's proverbial sexist dick, I guess.

(Anonymous) 2019-11-08 07:58 pm (UTC)(link)I meant that in particular because of that stereotype that women 'must know how to cook' it's played for badly made laughs when they can't.

(Anonymous) 2019-11-08 02:54 pm (UTC)(link)I actually interpreted it differently. I thought they meant that it bothered them more when it was a woman because it played into the whole "helpless woman" narrative, where a woman acts like an idiot thinking it'll impress a guy because some (pathetic, insecure) guys are intimidated by women that are actually competent in any way.
Maybe I'm being overly charitable though, and they actually meant it in a sexist way.

(Anonymous) 2019-11-08 04:25 am (UTC)(link)I do also hate the trope of getting offended when people don't like your cooking though. There's nothing wrong with being one of the bare minimum cooks. If someone didn't like something I made but it was all there was to eat for whatever reason, I wouldn't be offended, I'd just tell them to stop being a baby and suck it up.

(Anonymous) 2019-11-08 08:12 am (UTC)(link)And frankly, I find characters who aren't much good in the kitchen relatable and endearing. If they can't cook eggs or boil pasta or make a salad, then that seems kind of ridiculous and immature to me, but I prefer it when characters don't know much beyond the basics.
HOWEVER. I do hate the trope of characters making other people eat their food and expecting to be complimented, and getting horribly offended when someone doesn't compliment their cooking. If the character is a bad cook but they have no awareness that they're a bad cook, that's annoying.
