I've been reading Harry Potter fic again and it's been kind of a while, so I either had forgotten how completely messed up the wizarding world was or a lot of the implications of it hadn't sunk in back then. So, now when I'm reading, I desperately want my favorite characters to leave most of it behind (some of the magic is really cool, but some is just stupid).

Also, I've noticed that when writing from Harry's perspective, some authors write him as puzzled by some fairly simple muggle things. Yeah, his development would have been stunted in many ways by his treatment, but he also went to school and did a lot of chores, so he knows a fair amount about the muggle world.
