While I do think there are fans who genuinely want to discuss their opinions about it with others, the way many discussions degenerate does mean that, even without the intention, they do tend to end up as messy, troll-y, morasses of defensive dissertations and personal attacks.

Not the OP, but...

I don't think this is so much about fandom discussion as it is about various news stories where big name directors get asked how they feel about MCU and it turns out they're not big fans and don't think it's quality cinema. Martin Scorcese is one such director, IIRC Francis Ford Coppola is another and now the media is likely to quiz any and all famous directors to get their input because entertainment news is bullshit.

OP

Yes, that's what it's about, although fandom blogs jump all over it.

Personally, I agree with Scorcese. Once you notice from a Doylist perspective entire scenes and plot devices that are in the service of the marketing department, you start noticing it everywhere in the MCU.

Is this about the Scorsese thing? His initial comment seemed to be very throw away and y'know, just his opinion (which he's entitled to) but man am I sick of hearing about that now. I don't even mean because I like(d) the MCU. I really didn't need 100 think pieces on why Scorsese is wrong/is correct/is somewhere in the middle. It was boring after the second article about it.

It's super clickbaity and it won't go away. But that knowledge doesn't stop me from getting annoyed at the ludicrous defenses of Disney either

It's bad. Saved you a click.

Well played, OP.
