Considering 'God' has destroyed whole cities, tortured his followers, had his own son tortured and killed, drowned (supposedly) millions of people and animals, etc., etc., etc.....

Can't say i really feel much sympathy for the 'god' character on a tv show being shown as evil. Kinda true to form.

On the other hand, I think how much that matters may vary considerably on the specific context and personal feeling.

Frankly...i don't really care. It's a tv show. Let's count the ones that are disrespectful to women, LGBTQ people, immigrants, etc., etc.....

The Xian religion doesn't get a pass, they're in the mix just like everyone and everything else.

Well, but I would have a problem if a TV show in America - for example - went out of its way to portray Allah specifically as evil. I think that's because I would understand that in the context of discrimination against Muslims in America, and I don't know if the same logic would apply to Christians in America (though it might apply in a place where Christians were discriminated against). But I can also understand how a Christian might see that as a double standard (though I don't think that it is).

I wouldn't if it fit with the context of the show. I just...have a huge, huge, huge issue with any religion getting special treatment and writers, etc., being bullied or *told* they can't write their fictitious stories how they want.

Xians in the US aren't marginalized or oppressed in any way, shape, or form. I think they can take it.

Funny - it always seems to be the cool atheists constantly banging on about how much better they are than Christians, and Christians (in a serious minority, less than 5% here) running all the socially useful organisations around where I live whilst the seculars do fuck all. But hey, Christians are all bad, sure.

First, "Allah" and "God" are literally the same person/being/whatever you want to call it; Allah is just the Arabic word for God. The Muslims I know will use the word "God" when discussing their religion with English speaking people. It's not some 'scary foreign god' like a lot of Christians seem to think. They believe in the same god as Christians and Jewish people do.

Second, I have seen characters on TV call Muslims/Allah evil, only to have the Muslim characters call them a dumbass and point out the same thing I mentioned above, that it's the same god they believe in as Christians.

But if you were to have it as an overarching plot on a show or something, rather than a one off comment here and there, no, it's not acceptable. It's not the same thing at all. I can't speak for other countries because I don't know the specific cultural context, but in the US, Christians make up the majority of the country, and almost all people in power are Christian (or feel the need to claim they are, which kind of proves how much sway Christians hold in the country).

Muslims are already discriminated against in the US; the discrimination went up rapidly after 9/11 and it's gone up again during the past couple years. To have a show demonizing Muslims would just add to the stochastic terrorism perpetrated by the president on a daily basis. No one is out there (at least in the US) trying to kill Christians, but there have been multiple foiled domestic terrorist plots against Muslim and Jewish people and immigrants. It would be incredibly irresponsible.

And yeah, I'm sure there are plenty of Christians that would cry that they were being discriminated against, but that's one of the downsides of being the group in power. It's a "double standard" in the same way that white people not being able to say the N word is a double standard. When you're in power, you don't get to demonize oppressed groups.
