I hope you're not still having to live with your abusive parents, Anon.
And they don't have to die for you to live. Maybe just 'kill' them in your head, say 'they are dead' - and live your life.

You don't *have* to give them any respect, or even attention. It's not mandated. I hope that you are not dependent on them because of money/health/etc, because that would suck.

And i think most people grieve their parent's death, even when they are abusive. They're still your *parents*. It's not weird or abnormal to feel that way.

I am financially dependent due to disability so I do have to interact with them a lot. Otherwise I could just do what you said, cut them loose in my mind. But I'm not the one with the strings...
