I was in the process of making a secret that said something along these lines. I agree with you SO HARD. Not about wanting to be like her, but about her being wonderful. It enrages me when people turn her into a whore. Enrages me with super-duper rage. I make lists of writers I've seen do this and avoid them. I don't think you're being irrational at all.

She's one of my favorite characters by far, and I'm so tired of people deciding she's stupid/lazy/a passive sex robot/etc. just because of the boobs. KT actually makes a point (I'd argue) of depicting misogyny is a negative light, and I feel like all the people who fixate on the boobs are missing something pretty fundamental.

(Sorry for being anony; I've allegedly quit Bleach fandom and don't want to blow my cover.)

Missing something fundamental? I'm all for celebrating Matsumoto's awesomeness. She's tough, smart, and very, very cool. But to say KT has made a good point about misogny is going a bit too far.

Matsumoto's boobs are falling out of her uniform on a near constant basis. She uses them to smother her captain. She is somewhat lazy and often drunk (though that's okay, so is Shunsui), so writing her that way--within reason--isn't really OOC.

KT made her a sex symbol. He also made her a great character. But her ginormous breasts are a big part of her schtick, as well as her sexual teasing, drunkeness, and laziness on the job.

That's not to say I think it's okay to make her a whorish sex-bot, but some of the blame must be placed on her creator for making her (and a lot of the women in Bleach) sex objects.

I think glossing over certain aspects of her character is just as bad as exaggerating others.
