My smoke detector malfunctioned last night and went off and woke me up around 3 AM despite there being no smoke anywhere. It then kept going on and off every 10 or 15 minutes while I alternated between trying to figure out what was wrong, and hoping that I'd fixed it until it went off again 15 minutes later. It was especially frustrating because it's wired into the electric system, it doesn't even have a battery that can fail. Eventually around 4:15 or 4:30 I figured out how to unconnect it from the wiring and that finally shut it up so now I guess I have to have it replaced or figure something else out and also my sleep is all fucked up.

As I was reading, I kept thinking "Just take out the battery!" then you said it was hard wired and oh, man that sucks! I have an old smoke alarm I still need to get rid of. It's the radioactive kind so I either need to find out how to send it back to the manufacturer or figure out a safe alternative.
