I liked it more than the first one...but I do agree that I liked Mako and Stacker by themselves. Have Jake be a friend of Mako's who quit or something.

Also yes, Killing Mako? That made me mad.

God that movie sucked

I watched this with a mate after it came out on DVD, and when it was over I turned to her and said, "I'm not mad... Just disappointed."

I just thought it wasn't very good, overall. I liked the cast, but the movie was just bad; maybe it's because Del Torro didn't direct or write it?

That's entirely fair, OP. We're not required to only have noble, altruistic reasons for disliking something. It's just a movie, ffs! Though I might be biased because my enthusiasm for the sequel died when I heard about Mako.

I still can't believe a dude named "Stacker Pentecost" decided to name his only son "Jake." I can suspend my disbelief for kaiju and giant mecha, but weirdly not that; it felt like Boyega's Gary Stu self-insert.

Sounds better than my main reason for not liking it. I really hated the music. I adore the first soundtrack and that lame ripoff of the Pacific Rim main theme just took me right out of the movie.

Never thought I'd be one of those people, but here we are.
