Some of my least favorite people in fandom are those who go 'just OT3 it!' or insist that everyone polyship in order to 'solve' fandom ship-wars. No. I'm not going to give you grief over what you like, but I am not going to shove C into A/B because it doesn't 'solve' anything when I don't ship C with A OR B in the first place.

Honestly most of the people I see argue this are shippers of some small/unpopular ship who want more people to give them content for their fave who they think everyone else should love. No, deal with the fact that not everyone likes the same ships/characters you do, and especially don't be surprised if people get annoyed at you for trying to shove your boring-ass fave into a ship that has nothing to do with them.

I'll agree with the first paragraph of this especially. I'm not really an OT3 sort, either, though I can definitely see why that setup does appeal to others. In my case, do like to multi-ship, and I usually do tend to ship different variations involving characters A, B, and C. But I like exploring each different pairing on its own instead of putting all the characters together in one relationship.

Plus, I just don't know that I can write poly relationships very well, and even if I did want to write one, I don't think most of the characters in my fandoms are the sort that would be involved in OT3 type relationships in the first place anyway. Maybe if I find a character who I could see in that kind of setup, though...

I agree. There are things I OT3. But there are also things I can't OT3. OT3ing is not a solution. It is an entirely separate type of shipping that only works when it is right for the particular characters.

The few time's I'll like an OT3 is when there is a distinction between A/B, and then C. If I don't like C, ( and I usually don't) I find it to be almost validating that if C is going to be there they are definitely the third wheel.
