(Anonymous) 2019-11-12 09:57 am (UTC)(link)The X-Files (Mulder/Scully):
Universal Invariants by Syntax6. How S1 and early S2 might’ve gone, if a few things were different. I’m genuinely not sure if this will be enjoyable to someone who hasn’t watched (and doesn’t care about) the show. But it is phenomenal. Syntax6 is EASILY one of the best writers TXF fandom ever hand. (AND there's a long sequel, which is also very good.
Arizona Highways by Fialka. It’s been a decade since I read this, so I can’t remember much, but I remember it was one of The Greats of TXF fandom, and I remember they don’t get together for aaages, and I remember there’s definitely lots of plot.
Sherlock (Johnlock):
The Sensation of Falling As You Just Hit Sleep by greywash - Post Reichenbach. Angst, danger, secret plots, and pining. (Also has a sequel with more porn, and therefor less plot, but still also a fair bit of plot, and still definitely a lot of unresolved shit between Sherlock and John.)
The Frost Is All Over by Chryse - A 150K AU epic and something of a Dickensian ode to the 19th century orphan adventure novel. John Watson was trained as a jockey, but when he is injured at 14 he is sent to work in the stables at Sherrinford Hall, home of the aristocratic and highly influential Holmes family, where he soon meets 12-year-old Sherlock and the two become fast friends. (They don’t get together for ages, so if you’re worried about heavily underage stuff, fear not.)
A River Without Banks by Chryse - Begins immediately after the end of S3. Time travel for Very Important World-Saving Reasons. A TON of angst and pining. Also, this gets extremely dark in places. Incredibly ambitious and often electrifying. You don’t have to like the show beyond S2 to enjoy this (I would know), but I have no idea if this will be enjoyable to readers who aren’t invested in the canon.
MCU (Starker - but Peter is 18 when the fic starts):
Revelations by the “ride to church” anon. I know this ship is controversial, but if you are even slightly open to the idea of reading a Starker fic, I cannot recommend Revelations highly enough. IMO it is EASILY the best Starker fic in the fandom. Admittedly, the plot is not extremely strong in this one, but there IS definitely a plot, and a lot of stuff happens beyond just the shippy stuff. The whole Avengers gang is in this, and they’re all fantastic. Plus, because of the nature of the ship, the (EXTREMELY HOT) sexytiems don't actually resolve anything. Which I love.
