(Anonymous) 2019-11-12 07:06 am (UTC)(link)I find most of the time the "slow burn" doesn't really have a legit reason for them not to be together. "Why can't they be together now?" is the major conflict of romance. So, at least give me a legit reason, like a power imbalance or 'now is not the time' deep grief or something. It falls flat w/o a legit grievance. (Castle after Season 3 was the worst for this. Then when they got together in Season 5, I wanted to scream b/c they screwed Beckett's character. She is not in HS anymore. It's a miracle I got through season 6.)
Which is sort of why in my books (indie published,) the female character is going "nope power imbalance" and the male character just MOVED to the area and is trying to stay single until he understands the relationships/politics. (He doesn't want to get punched okay.) My timeline is thus far 5 months for him to figure out he likes her and 9 for him to figure out how to actually get her to agree to date him. Then courting.
While there are adventures and explosions. I'm totally understanding if my readers are going to want to hit me with the books. I do have a reasoning for doing it this way. Ah well.
