this, I mean...I've done a lot of reading on actual history because it fascinates me and yeah, shit was fucked up but honestly in the 1550-1720 segment there, the "law" was actually worse. I don't have strong feelings romanticising actual historical pirates, some of them were barely criminal while others were awful but at least they weren't being starved by naval commanders and press-ganged into suicide missions.

but on the flip side, there are plenty of fictional pirates (including Robert Louis Stevenson's own romanticising of them) who abide more by a general idea of sticking it to the man and hell yeah I can get behind those 100%.

I actually do know the history of pirating, and their origins, so no, not all of them were complete assholes. They lived in a world completely different than ours, that meant they had to make due any way they could. Something they did with quite an amount of respect.

Though, If I am so wrong, please tell me exactly why all pirates are the epitome of evil.
