Because perfect wonderful Ishida-sama deseeeerves the woman he obviously is completely in love with, and if she submits to his love and becomes what he wants her to be, then she's Good. if she insists on continuing to have her own feelings, then she's Bad.

To be fair, I think Ishida deserves a break and that he'd be good for Orihime, specifically because he doesn't want her to be anything but what she is. I also don't think I can attribute that kind of creepy sentiment to the OP. Sounds to me like they like the ship and hate the character in it for some bizarre but unrelated reason. I don't have any idea how that works.

To be honest, I detect a feeling of 'spite-shipping'--meaning they ship something else harder, and if Orihime isn't tied up with Ishida, she'll probably get in the way of Ichigo/whoever the OP wants to be here.

Bingo. That's exactly what I thought when reading that secret.

I think it's more that Orihime could end up with Ichigo, sinking the ship. It looks like she's shipping the ship because she loves it (thus why she ships it more than fleets of the FedEx trucks, so I highly doubt it's spite-shipping). She didn't say she hates Orihime, just that she would hate Orihime if she ended up with anyone other than Ishida.

Still pretty childish, though. More like 'if she can't end up with him, she should end up with no one and die for it'.

That is a possibility I hadn't thought of, you do have a point.

I do think Ishida/Orihime is a cute ship, but--I may have misattributed it to the OP--I see a lot of this attitude from the IshiHime fandom that Orihime is only a good character when she's around Ishida, especially when he's protecting her as her noble knight (and yeah, the IchiHime fandom wants Ichigo to be her knight too, but I don't see the same level of spite towards Ichigo for not reciprocating Orihime's feelings as I see towards Orihime for not reciprocating Ishida's implied feelings).

To be honest, I wish Ishida would get a Battle Girlfriend. I don't think Orihime could really keep up.

I like the idea of Nemu gaining some actual personality and agency, partially through her interactions with Ishida, helping Ishida kill her 'father' when she realizes how insane and corrupt he is, and dragging Ishida off for Experiments. Sexy Experiments.

Unfortunately, Kubotite seems to have lost interest in fleshing out the whole creepy dynamic among Ishida, Mayuri, and Nemu as anything other than lolololol isn't Mayuri awesome and hilarious?

Mayuri is fucked. He is so fucking fucked. I hate him. He and Nnoitra should run off into the sunset to be fucked up and creepy together.

I was very sad to learn that Urahara associated at all with Mayuri, but not surprised. Of course, it doesn't mean much that I'm not surprised because I think that Urahara is secretly evil and Gin is secretly good, so I've already got a really warped perspective.

But Mayuri is awesome and hilarious. Bleach needs less brooding, serious characters and more parody characters like Mayuri, Ichigo's dad, Don Kanoji and Kenpachi. If they want to kill someone, they better kill Byakuga or Hitsugaya or the whole angsty bishounen gang. Perhaps then Bleach will become good again.

Besides, Kubo is at his best with creeps. Zombie Powder is 10 times the manga Bleach wishes it could be.

Don Kanonji is loads of fun. While slightly more serious, Isshin and Kenpachi are also great, cheerfully angst-free badasses. The problem is, Mayuri isn't on the level of those characters. When he was introduced, he was a horrifying monster who gleefully sacrificed his subordinates and gloated about killing and torturing Ishida's entire clan. Now KT wants him to be a hilarious parody character, and it's incredibly jarring to those of us who remember him as a monster. And--I say this as someone who doesn't even find Ishida all that interesting--it damages Ishida's character to have him reduced to comic relief lulz alongside the guy who he'd basically sworn to kill for very good reasons.

Yup.

Mayuri strikes you as a parody character? Uhhhh...
