138: Hmm, still haven't seen the US version. I'm scared about it. I have no idea why they needed to remake it in the first place. What about the UK version wasn't suitable for US audiences?

148: Hahahah, never thought I'd see a secret about David and Margaret here. I just assume they're secretly together.

128. It's actually, to my great surprise, not that bad. (Unlike the original pilot, which was worse than you could possibly believe!) They're taking bits and pieces of the original LOM scripts, and a few snippets from Ashes to Ashes, and the whole thing feels as authentically 1973 New York as the original felt 1973 Manchester.

As for why the original's not suitable -- well, duh, it's British and they talk funny, donchaknow! What American mainstream TV network would dare try THAT? :<

148. WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE??? I've been reading the comments trying to figure out who they are and what this is.

Oh yeah? Well, maybe I'll give it a bash then. I have a feeling they'd be less subtle with the relationship between Sam and Annie (and while I LOVE how it played out in the UK version, sometimes I wanted to bang my head against the wall) which could be okay.

Hahaha, they're the two most famous tv movie critics in Australia, Margaret Pomerantz and David Stratton. They've been on since the dawn of time, seemingly, and are probably the most well-respected Australian movie critics. They're somewhat old and crusty but we love 'em and they're always entertaining.

Ah, thanks for the info. I kept thinking they were people I should know, but clearly not.

Um. Sam and Annie. Whooo. Sadly, that's the one real complaint I have about the US version. Annie is ... not very good. Instead of just being a really nice girl, she's a moderately nice girl with a psychology degree who clearly is intending to go into social work at some point. It took until the third episode for me to not actively dislike her, whereas I liked the original Annie tremendously.

I remember there was one year finale when they were still on SBS, and David gave her a little kiss, and blushed. And that was when I realised I shipped it. I love their bickering.

Y'all realise that they actually are married, right? It's what makes them so awesome :)

Not to each other, though!
