Christmas Shopping!

How is yours going? Need ideas? Want to rant? Here is where you can do it.

I love buying things for people but damn, I wish I had more money. :(

And yeah, I know "it's the thought that counts" and you can give people great presents or homemade presents, etc. I know. I still wish I had more money.

not everybody has the skills to make decent homemade presents

Yes, exactly! And this isn't to be critical of anyone's skills, but not everyone enjoys homemade presents. I for one would kill for a hand knitted scarf, socks, blanket, etc. but I know people who really wouldn't have a use for such things.

Every year my parents say they aren't going to get much for each other to save money. And every year they both get multiple presents for each other anyway. And every year my dad gets annoyed at my mom for "spending too much on him." Even though he did the same thing, and even though gift giving is something important to her (she always goes all out and gets the perfect gift for people for every occasion). Can't he just be grateful and make her feel good for getting him something he likes? I know he's frugal, but it is Christmas. And he spent money on her too.

Chocolate? That's what I always do for my dad. A bar or three of dark chocolate.

Hmmmm? Shaving comb or soap bar? My dad likes a specific kind, so that can be a safe bet. Gift cards are good. Tea (or coffee if thy drink that).

Irish Spring is what my dad swears by. I think Dove has men's soaps. Those soap on a rope things are probably considered manly.

Lush has an amazing beard soap called Kalamazoo! And also lots of high quality "naked" cosmetics.

I hear you. I feel like the kind of stocking stuffers for dudes that are marketed around this time of year are very... specific? And dudely? What if the guy you're buying for isn't handy or already has plenty of tools, pocket gadgets, doesn't want grooming supplies, cologne, flasks, wouldn't know wtf to do with "whiskey rocks", etc. etc.

I buy my brother a different weird beer every year.

Fancy novelty socks (I'm literally seeing them everywhere lol), gift cards to places like Target or grocery stores, restaurant gift cards, fancy pens, refrigerator magnet sets, hand creams, reusable water bottles, lip balm, coaster sets, card games, boxes of tea.

I'm 75% done and thanks to budgeting since last Christmas everything has been paid for in cash. NO DEBT ACCRUED THIS YEAR.

I'm also going to make some candied almonds, maybe some chocolate bars, and last year I made orange marmalade for my brother/dad, so I might try a different jam this year as well.

I have a list, but I haven't gone bargain hunting yet. I haven't figured out what to get my sister yet;;

I've been sticking my head in the sand about it this year. I only buy stuff for my parents and brother, but my parents are retired and don't need *stuff* and my brother makes more money than I do and and I can never figure out what he'd like or need. Usually I default to nice "dressy casual" clothes for my brother to wear to work because he's kind of useless at dressing himself. I'll probably go with that again. For my parents, I like getting them Open Table gift certificates, although I try to mix it up. I got them a movie theater gift card last year instead, so maybe I'll go back to Open Table or try to come up with something else. They don't do theater or concerts or play golf or go fishing or anything that would make this easier.
