I'm not super in love with SU's character design, but I like how Spinel looks. It feels exactly what it was intended to be: a combination of a Gem and early 20th century rubberhose character designs. I especially love how Past!Spinel's hair buns move exactly like Mickey's ears. :D

I feel this, I love Bismuth as a character (before she got defanged at least) but her design is awful...did nobody think that would be an unfortunate design choice for a character who’s very clearly black-coded

I'm genuinely curious which aspects of her design you think have bad implications? Like, I can see how she *is* black-coded, with the rainbow psuedo-dreadlocks and the VA, but I don't see why it's bad for a black coded character to be muscular or have the twisty rainbow stone or wear a smith's apron. I can maybe see someone being upset that a black-coded female-coded character is so butch, because of defeminizing black women....but butch black girls exist, and Garnet is also coded black, and she has Hartman Hips for days. Maybe there's something about her being ~angry and dangerous~ but like...her anger is justified & empathized with, and she learns and adapts faster than a lot of characters on the show, and also lots of characters on the show are more dangerous than she is. And even that is a character writing decision more than a design one.

Am I being totally oblivious and dumb and missing something huge?

It's the feet and pants I find odd, but again, rubber hose style. I get over it.

I've admittedly never seen a single episode of SU, but I'm in love with this design! It's so eye-catching and retro-flavored, and I love the mania of it. Is it that she doesn't fit in with the other designs? I'm genuinely curious what you don't like about it!

Spinel moves like a spider crossed with a dust devil crossed with a Slinky. I’m pretty sure she’s supposed to creep you out.

she reminds me of beanbag with stretchy arms and legs sewn onto it. like some sort of neat doll... which is kinda what she was meant to be to PD.

I honestly though Spinal was a bad Mickey Mouse OC the first time I was introduced the character...

I can't really decide if I like her desogn or not,but she does very much remind me of Mickey Mouse.
