I have nothing to contribute except to point out that there's no way that Mako knew about Korrasami before the audience did because they didn't even get together until the literal last second of the show and Mako wasn't there.

I mean, from a writing perspective, yes, but the word of god is that they were together throughout the last season, so from an in universe standpoint we can assume their friends knew about it.
