Re: Why oh why

Because sometimes it's more important to do the thing and sometimes there's no other way to get people to do it.

You do it at your demise, but sure.

I don't see how. You have to have laws and taxes and things to have a functioning society, and that's basically forcing people to act a certain way, isn't it? And I don't think politeness and civility are bad things, and those are enforced primarily through shame. Don't really see what you mean.

You're not wrong!

I hate being needlessly controlled with a passion, but I'm also not a Libertarian. Governmental, legal, and some social controls exist for important reasons. Not all of them are legit, IMO, but I'll certainly take all over none, if it's down to that.

Yeah, I agree with that. I think that working towards diminishing those things is an important goal but they're also clearly important and useful and necessary.

NAYRT but I read the original comment more as a abusive and controlling people emotionally blackmailing others into behaving the way they (the abusers) think they (the victims) should.

The old "overly controlling parents who end up wondering why their adult children want nothing to do with them," you know?

da

I read it as someone being butthurt that people think they're an asshole for being pro-Trump.

DA -- If that's what they actually meant, then I'd agree with you. However, I can't even remember the last time I heard that argument when it wasn't coming from some "people who discriminate against Nazis are the real racists" asshole.

It's at a lot of people's demise if you refuse to vaccinate your kids. I don't think these anti-vaxxer parents should be shamed, btw, just fined heavily and their kids force-vaccinated.
