Honestly, this. If they're trying to set Kylo up as a character that can be redeemed, they've gone about it all wrong. There's no misdirected strength of character that could be salvaged, or even a tragic backstory to make the audience sympathize with his bad choices. He's just a spoiled brat with super powers and no self control. Sucks for Leia if he can't be saved, but if BB8 sets him on fire and jettisons him into space nothing of value will have been lost.
