It was boring and Jyn was the boringest part of it.

You're welcome to your wrong opinion.

So weird to me - I was pleasantly surprised by Rogue One. It was slow to start, but once it got going, it was great. I honestly loved it.

If you're up for it, I really recommend reading Rebel Rising (I listened to the audiobook, which was very good) to fully understand why Jyn is so closed off and hopeless at the start of the movie.

(Anonymous) 2019-11-19 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
IMO, the problem isn't that people just don't get why Jynn is closed off and hopeless, it's that the actress doesn't communicate that well. She doesn't look like someone who's numb but struggling underneath, she looks wooden.

My big problem was when she went from calm and stoic to "hope! we can do this! we are the hope!"

(Anonymous) 2019-11-19 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
I had to look her up. Felicity Jones. I've seen her in a few things but the only one I can say I enjoyed watching her in was a very silly romcom with the guy from gossip girl (who is comparable talent-wise). She's cute and funny but she doesn't have a very strong screen presence, IMO. It really shows when she's cast alongside decent actors.

I think if Kate Beckinsale and Sarah Michelle Gellar were somehow able to have a baby together, that baby would look like Felicity Jones.

(Anonymous) 2019-11-19 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
I think she looks like she could be Emily Watson's daughter.

I was reading this secret and literally went, "Who is Jynn Erso?" Apparently she made a big impression on me. Whoops.

More interesting and ______??? What, OP?

I loved that movie and yes, she's fairly flat. Doesn't make the rest of the movie or the other characters bad, though.

(Anonymous) 2019-11-19 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
Did the OP say the rest of the characters were bad? Aren't they saying the opposite of that?

They said 'i wanted it to be good', which implies that having a bad main character made the rest of the movie bad, too.

Agree to disagree. I loved the supporting characters, sure. But Jyn really made the movie for me and has become one of my top favorite not just Star Wars characters but characters period.

(Anonymous) 2019-11-19 03:00 am (UTC)(link)
tbh I can't pinpoint any characteristics of any SW characters post the original trilogy. They're all so bland and almost interchangeable.

The thing I remember about the movie was the doomed, nameless rebels trying to buy a few more seconds against Darth Vader so they could get the plans to safety.

The deaths of the main characters? No impact whatsoever.

(Anonymous) 2019-11-19 10:00 am (UTC)(link)
Jyn did feel a little flat, but I liked that. I think it played well with the overall tonal and conceptual realism the film was going for. She felt less like a character and more like a real person. Maybe that's why her death at the end hit me so hard.

(Anonymous) 2019-11-20 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
I liked the movie despite Jyn being less interesting than watching grass grow. Everyone else was interesting & they carried the movie for me.

(Anonymous) 2019-11-20 02:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I thought Rogue One and Jyn Erso were amazing, so you are welcome to your wrong opinion.

(Anonymous) 2019-11-23 06:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I was mostly disappointed that pretty much everyone died in it. Like, what was the point of the movie then? Just for a set-up for one thing in the main movies? Ugh.
