RDJ was addicted sinse 8 y/o

I recently saw this piece of information on Reddit and I'm like - how? I was too stupid to be addicted to anything at 8, it's an elementary school age. Wth. How does it even work.

Wasn't he a child star? Drew Barrymore went to rehab before she was 13. Hollywood is a shitty, shitty place for younger people.

+1

Her family has always been in the business, and people at the parties they had would share their drugs with her.

"... his father started giving him drugs when he was just 8-years-old..." (His own words)
And really, that's how - growing up around a parent, or family member who is sick enough or deluded enough or just enough of a fuckhead to give a kid drugs.

Lots of people, sadly, seem to do it - a lot of celebrities have said they did drugs because their parent's introduced them to it. Sucks.

It's actually much easier for children to get addicted, drugs affect them more strongly and their brain chemistry is different, more malleable. Sometimes it's just pervasive in their environment - the people raising them are addicted or involved and the paraphernalia is always around and sometimes those people don't just passively encourage, but actively encourage the use. And if someone was giving them to him, especially someone in some sort of authority, of course he would take them. That's not even accounting for genetic pre-disposition or possible exposure in the womb.

I started smoking when I was 9, lmao. It was a weird set of circumstances and they were easy for me to get ahold of, but I 100% got addicted to them, even that young. I quit when I was 16, though, and I've been free of them since (and I'm in my mid-30s now).

Junkies dose their kids to keep them quiet so they can party interrupted, or they get them high for a laugh, or older siblings share their stash because they started at the same age, etc.

Then you have everyone born addicted.

People are horrible.

Um, you've never heard of crack babies?

Age isn't a barrier to addiction.

I haven't heard about them either. And I'm pretty sure that a 9 year old addicted to drugs isn't common enough to not wonder how much of a fuck up of a parent you must be for something like that to happen.

Well, I'm sure it varies from situation from situation. Someone definitely isn't paying attention, or close enough attention.

But people who give their kids hard drugs have no business being around anything small, young and/or vulnerable.

I'm amused by people not having heard of crack babies. Maybe that term has faded away like "Welfare Queen."

FYI, "crack baby" was a term for a baby who had been exposed to cocaine in-utero and would supposedly be born with severe disabilities and society was going to collapse because of all the crack babies.
