Re: To Go Ahead Or Not?
(Anonymous) 2019-11-20 01:53 am (UTC)(link)Honestly, I'm currently in a fandom where people will post anything and call it a fic. They'll plunk out 200 words of mid-fuck daddy kink with zero characterization and slap it up on AO3 in a hot second. And as much as I'm a snob who silently rolls my eyes at them, they get kudos and comments and they seem to have fun with it. Which has really put into perspective for me that you don't need to write 5K - 200K of gorgeously structured plot and perfect characterization in order for it to be ok to post. The fact that you describe your fic as "long enough and decent enough to be considered a full fic in its own right" makes me think you probably have higher-than-necessary standards for your own fanfic (which is not remotely a criticism, for the record).
Unless you're in a really snobby fandom, other people in the fandom will probably just be happy someone wrote something for them to enjoy.
