That's it exactly: what is the narrative authority? It should be some combination of the music/images and the viewer, but when the characters speak, we go directly back to the source. Some very few, very talented vidders can get away with a word or two. I'm thinking specifically of that Marvel vidding duo Grable424 and dcprod, who did Glitter and Gold:

But in this Daredevil vid, Cantrous does a marvelous job of sound integration, but I still think there's too much dialog. Is it really necessary? A few lines work, but at the end it's just noise interfering with the climax of the vid. imho.

Both vids are brilliant, and this is as close as I could get with the comparisons to try to illustrate the jarring effect.

I don't watch a lot of fanvids for the reasons discussed here, but that Glitter & Gold vid is really dope. Thanks for posting it!
