My fellow Americans...

(Anonymous) 2019-11-26 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
What are you looking forward to the most this Thanksgiving? What do you look forward to the least?

Most: stuffing.
Least: leftovers.

Are the leftovers of the "nobody really likes this stuff in the first place, but every year someone makes it too much" variety?

I always make extra stuff I love, specifically to have leftovers. I make extra dressing, mac and cheese, and gravy (because I like gravy on my dressing and when the dressing is gone, I like it over steamed rice).

I look forward to the ham. I love ham and it's basically the only time of year I eat it. I also love the time off from work and hanging out with my family. I'm not looking forward to all the drama that's gonna crop up because some of my cousins have decided not to spend Thanksgiving with their families.

Most: seeing my brother
Least: seeing my parents

I gotta be honest...most traditional Thanksgiving food is underwhelming, IMO. I don't like turkey. That sweet potato dish with the marshmallows is too sweet for my tastes. Stuffing is good, mashed potatoes and gravy is great. I don't get the point of cranberry sauce, but then I don't care for mixing sweet and savory much.

"That sweet potato dish with the marshmallows". The... what? Please tell me that's a dessert?

Haha, nope. I'm not sure if it's a regional thing (I'm in the south, not sure if the other person is as well) but here, that's just how people make sweet potatoes for Thanksgiving.

I'm not from the US so I only know about the vague classics when it comes to Thanksgiving food. But sweet potatoes and marshmallows does sound way too sweet as a side dish. /shudder

Haha yeah. "Add unnecessary sugar to everything" is pretty much the American way, lol.

(For what it's worth I don't like sweet potatoes to begin with, but yeah, it sounds...not good.)

The most: time off, good food, lots to drink, special food I don't usually eat any other time of year.

The least: I work in retail (I actually have a warehouse job but I'm also responsible for production) so its always nuts on Black Friday. Fortunately I have it off this year so I'm going to brunch with my husband.

We already had ours because the non-jerk members of my family are going to be out of town on the actual day. It was really nice...delicious food and no drama.

So I'll just be hanging out at home and relaxing, then doing some online Black Friday shopping. I want to cook something at least a little special for dinner but I have no idea what yet.

I'm debating making a trip tomorrow to this international grocery store that has all kinds of cool stuff but it's almost two hours away and I'm not sure I feel like driving that far (although making a couple hour drive to go to one specific place isn't really unusual in my family like I feel like it probably would be for a lot of people). I guess I'll see what I'm in the mood to do when I get up tomorrow morning.

Most - my brothers and daughter (and sis-in-law and niece) coming to eat at my house.
Least - fucking cooking (I'm just doing the turkey/stuffing, one pie, and possibly one side, but still.....)

Most: mashed potatoes and corn casserole (This amazing thing my mom makes that is really good) and pecan pie.

Least: The fact that my sister is bringing her dog and cat and so my cat will be miserable and suffering for the next few days (sister is coming tomorrow morning and leaving Friday).

Most: the food, seeing the dogs, possibly seeing deer, cows, wild turkeys, and my nieces.
Least: my indifferent family.
